The Role and the Team
We have a new exciting opportunity for an IT Systems Engineer. You’ll be a vital contributor to our small but passionate team and play a pivotal role in ensuring our IT infrastructure is reliable, secure, and optimised to support Blue Light Card's mission of delivering exceptional service to the emergency services, NHS, social care, armed forces and Teacher communities.
We’re seeking a dependable and motivated person who can effectively manage the challenges of business-as-usual tasks while also contributing to, and at times leading, projects and initiatives. As IT Systems Engineer you’ll be an enabler of these ambitions.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and maintain Microsoft-online based systems, network infrastructure, and Windows/Mac desktop environments across the organisation
- Administer and optimise Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint) and Entra ID/Azure AD, handling user provisioning, license management, and SaaS applications
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues from the service desk, ensuring an excellent service for colleagues and end-users
- Implement security policies and ensure systems comply with organisational standards and best practices
- Assist in the deployment and management of new hardware, software, and system upgrades, including managing laptops and Macs
- Collaborate with stakeholders to plan and execute future automation efforts.
- Take ownership of asset management, inventory, and technical documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Facilitate meeting rooms and events such as Town Hall meetings, ensuring technical setups run smoothly
What You’ll Bring
- Experience administering IT systems, including Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, ensuring smooth operation and efficient user management
- Expertise in managing and customising device profiles in Microsoft 365 Intune, using scheduling and scripting to optimise workflows
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving issues through a ticketing system, effectively balancing business-as-usual tasks with new requests
- Knowledge of networking concepts like DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, and TCP/IP, with a focus on modern VPN solutions
- Ability to use PowerShell scripting to automate processes and enhance system administration
- Strong background in implementing and managing security protocols, including advanced email gateways such as Mimecast, to ensure secure email communications
- Experience overseeing asset management and ensuring compliance with IT policies and procedures
- Capability to independently apply service management principles (e.g., ITIL) to plan and execute tasks efficiently
Preferred experience
- Working with standard security frameworks, including ISO 27001, Cyber EssentialsPlus, NIST CSF
- Experience using Microsoft Intune and configuring/managing Windows Autopilot
- Experience with Jamf or Kandji MDM tools
- Atlassian Jira and Jira Service Desk administration
- Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals, CompTIA A+, Network+/Cisco CCNA or equivalent
